Sign Up April 18 - 20! on weekendwritingmarathon

Need to get some words in? The Weekend Writing Marathon (WWM) is a writing challenge designed to help you do just that. You set your own writing goal for the weekend and work to achieve it before reporting back to the group on Sunday night.


Do you want to write more, but you dislike long-term goals? This is a project you can complete in one weekend and be done with it and pat yourself on the back.

Today is the last day to nominate projects and patrons for the 2025 Rose and Bay Awards. If you have not yet nominated or boosted the signal, please do so now. It would be especially helpful for folks you know via places like Kickstarter or Patreon, as I'm not on those sites.  If you have goals like "participate in more Dreamwidth activities," "read more," or "support crowdfunding" then this is a good opportunity for those things.

These are the handlers for the 2025 award season:

There are all kinds of writing challenges and goals that people like to do. Some are individual, others are group events. Some are all year, others shorter. Some have speculative fiction themes, others are ordinary. They span a great many different formats including but not limited to fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and fanwriting. Here are some for your inspiration. On Dreamwidth, see communities for Writing. Note that some like getyourwordsout makes regular checkin posts for your writing projects.

You can pick whichever challenge(s) you want to set as a goal in 2025 and reply with a comment. Below the list of challenges is a short form for listing which you have chosen. Make a post in your blog like "I signed up for the Writing challenge in goals_on_dw" -- or list the specific challenge if you're doing an official one somewhere else instead of a personal one here. Then make a tag for it like "Writing Challenge" and put that on the post; it should stick that way. Check your Interests page to see if you have Writing, Fiction, Meta, Science Fiction, Fanfic, etc. listed there, which helps people find you. You don't have to sign up to participate, it just helps spread the word and attract more readers.

See also the Fannish 50 challenge, which simply aims to post fifty entries on any topic in fandom. If you want to write the captain's logs of an alternate Enterprise, analyze the social dynamics of Hobbiton, describe the architecture Hogwarts, or review every book you read all year, go for it. You can even double-count anything that applies to two or more goals, e.g. getyourwordsout and Fannish 50.
