This year during Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, I'm writing about goal-setting frameworks for
goals_on_dw. Read Part 1: Introduction to Goal-Setting Frameworks, Part 2: The 1-3-5 Rule, Part 3: The 12-week Year, Part 4: ABCS (Achievable, Believable, Committed, Specific), Part 5: Backward Goal, Part 6: BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goals), Part 7: BSQ (Think Big, Act Small, Move Quick), Part 8: CLEAR (Collaborative, Limited, Emotional, Appreciable, Refinable).
Part 8: CLEAR (Collaborative, Limited, Emotional, Appreciable, Refinable)
CLEAR goals are Collaborative, Limited, Emotional, Appreciable, Refinable. This goal-setting method is ideal for work or school, where you'll be interacting with other people. It helps manage and direct group efforts based on its components.

* Collaborative. A team of people work on a shared goal together. They support each other's ideas and efforts. This requires members to have a reasonable amount of emotional intelligence. Use communication skills to keep everyone on the same page as you work.
* Limited. Define what is and isn't part of the goal. Give it a precise deadline. Detail the plan, such as usage of resources and which roles different team members will take.
* Emotional. Create a sense of attachment and investment in this ambition. Connect team members with each other. Use emotional intelligence to maintain balance within the group.
* Appreciable. Break the large goal into smaller pieces. Each piece should be actionble unto itself.
* Refinable. Unforeseen challenges can arise in any plan. Make sure yours has contingency plans and firebreaks to accommodate them.
While most goal-setting methods can be used in various contexts, this one usually appears in a public or semi-public setting. Unlike some others, CLEAR goals require a team. Use emotional intelligence to ensure that everyone is enthusiastic about the project. Stay in close touch as you move along, and keep everyone updated about your progress until you finish.
