New Year's Resolutions Check In
We made it through the first work week of January. This is enough to get an early glimpse of progress with New Year's resolutions. It's also malleable enough to make changes. For more ideas on New Year's resolutions in this community, see:

How are your resolutions going?
Are you struggling with year-long goals? Consider adding some one-day resolutions to boost your sense of accomplishment. You can also break yearly goals into smaller subgoals, like weekly or monthly ones. Alternatively, try making a set of 4-8 seasonal resolutions, where each goal will only be active for about three months.
Do you feel more crushed by obligations than inspired by opportunities? You might benefit from exploring alternatives to conventional resolutions. You could simplify things, or add some fun New Year's resolutions and self-care goals so you don't burn out.
Are you bored with the same old resolutions? Try something unique! Sometimes it's fun to tackle a challenge that few if any other people will be doing.
How are you doing with tracking your progress? Some folks like a hardcopy journal, others electronic, or even a mix of both. If you need a visual representation, check out these bullet journal pages.
Are you still going strong? Reward yourself!

also i am indeed reading books! just continuing one i started in decembter (cory doctorow's the internet con), but i'm enjoying it a lot and there's more books i have up next that i'm actually looking forward to
i haven't done a lot in the way of the exact coding languages i've wanted to practice, but i've been doing stuff here and there. i can't decide if i want to focus on 1-2 languages (ruby and golang) only or dabble in everything on the list. this makes it sound like it's a big list when the other languages are python and perl lol but i wanna add to that list already... typescript for atproto/bluesky dev calls out to me... i will think about it!
i'm tracking my progress with both <a href="https://obsidian.md/obsidian notes</a> and my usual media tracking sites, plus my scrapbook post. i think i'm doing ok right now, because even if the progress isn't much, it's still me doing something at all. and when i've struggled so hard with getting literally anything done in the past (depression, inability to focus, etc), it feels important to me that i encourage myself in comments like these even over the small stuff.
Go you!
Done!
Completed: 4
So far these are just my one-day goals, mostly year-beginning stuff.
Begun: 14
Most of these cannot be completed quickly.
View my detailed progress report with a list of individual goals completed or begun.
We've also done extra shopping, and I've done extra yardwork, preparing for an expected snowstorm to dump copious amounts starting late Sunday night or early Monday morning.
